Kirk Christ

Morning Worship: 9.30am each Sunday

Kirk Christ is situated on the outskirts of Port Erin and Port St Mary. It is an impressive Parish Church with a long history of being a place of prayer and worship. It is the oldest church in the parish, dating back to at least the 13th century. The vicars can be traced back to 1400.

The church has a wide variety of beautiful stained glass windows and is a popular choice for celebrations. Weddings and baptisms are held here as well as flower festivals and the Parish carol service on the Sunday before Christmas.

Morning Worship is at 9.30am each Sunday, except on the 4th Sunday of the month, where all four churches in the Parish come together for a joint service at 11am. On occasion this is changed, so please check the Parish calendar on the right for details.

It has its own churchyard which is well maintained and meaningful to the many people who visit.

History

In 1773 the church was described as tottering and ruinous, and so the building underwent extensive rebuilding with a new roof put on. The roof was later replaced in 1935 and practically everyone engaged upon the re-roofing had been baptised in the church, and they took great pride in their work.

A number of history books have been written about Kirk Christ and these can be found here. The latest book (published in 2020) was written by the current vicar, Rev Joe Heaton.
