St. Mary’s

Morning Worship: 11am each Sunday

St. Mary’s Church dates from 1884. It is be found on the main road through Port St. Mary village. The church is pleased to have its own choir (photo) that enhances the singing during services. An All-Age service is held on the 2nd Sunday of the month.

Morning Worship is at 11.00am each Sunday, except on the 4th Sunday of the month, where all four churches in the Parish come together for a joint service at 11am. On occasion this is changed, so please check the Parish calendar on the right for details.

Sunday School

The Sunday School meets weekly during the 11am Service.  The children meet in the church and join in with a hymn before moving to the hall.  We use a wide range of material from craft work to drama to engage children of all ages.

Location

A little bit of History
St. Mary’s Church was built so that the residents of Port St Mary did not have to travel to the Parish Church as this was ‘very inconvenient for them, especially in the winter season’. The site was given by Mrs EM Gawne of Kentraugh and the building paid for by public subscription. The first people to get married in the church were Mr and Mrs F Poulson of Bootle in April 1896 as indicated by a stone plaque near the organ.

The church was consecrated in 1884 and a copy of the service that was used can be downloaded here.

A short history of the church was compiled to celebrate their centenary year in 1984.
